Dear peers,
We're happy to share with you some technical news for the last quarter of 2024!

Telehouse 2: Additional edge device, supporting 800GE interfaces
Telehouse 2 remains the most important PoP in the France-IX infrastructure with around half of the traffic exchanged. To support the growth of this PoP, a new edge device, a Nokia 7750 SR-1x-48D, was installed at the end of the year. Dual-attached to P routers, it will allow client distribution across multiple edge devices within this PoP. It supports 400G and 800G interfaces, ensuring it can meet future needs for years to come.
Freepro MRS1 : Replacement of a legacy edge device, a 400G device installed
An aging Juniper EX9214, in service for over 9 years at Freepro MRS1 PoP, has been replaced with a modern Nokia 7750 SR-1-48D, marking another step in network infrastructure modernisation. Key improvements include:
- Compact design: A 17RU device have been replaced with a 2RU one, freeing up significant rack space.
- Efficiency gains: Power consumption reduced by 75%
- 400G support: For customers demand but also for backbone, enabling substantial cost savings in optical transport
- Enhanced management: Installation of managed PDUs and structured cabling management
With this deployment, 8 PoPs now support 400GE technology!
Backbone upgrade capacity: DRT PAR2 & TH2
- DRT PAR2: After having installed a 400G linecard during last quarter, 400G ZR optics have been configured to increase capacity on one path, reaching 800G.
- Telehouse 2: Capacity between P routers and one of the largest edge routers has been increased to 2 * 1.2Tbps.
Hosting IN2P3 : Hosting space optimization at IN2P3
Two racks have been fully decommissioned, reducing the footprint and optimizing hosting space. The customers previously hosted in these racks have been consolidated onto other existing racks within the same PoP.
